Crikey.......waiting for a good No.5 is getting hard enough these days, without being specific for the rarer of the two makers :o

Don't think I saw a single BSA one for sale during the 12+ months I was looking for a good one.

I've seen a couple in the last 2 years, but they are rare. hence the appeal, somewhat. That and it was made less than 15 miles from my house. :)

As an ex-wartime BSA M20 motorcycle owner, I can understand that.

At least I can still wear my BSA t-shirts from those days as my No.4T is a BSA one.... lol

Am considering a smoothbore flintlock next, and possibly a mossberg MVP, I've got a .223 and .308 slot free. Might go for a 45lc buntline revolver though....

I was told the BSA bike company and the BSA gun company were different entities and the bike company traded off the kudos of the gun company with their "built like a gun" motif?

Was told this by a drunk man. He seemed quite adamant though.

Hang on. No, that was Enfield! Not BSA.

I've had three beers. Can you tell?

Once my SCG comes through I'll be looking to get an 12g O/U for sporting clay use.

Well, that was a relatively quick turnaround! Just got back with my M1 carbine. It's an IAI M888, so a "modern" made rifle. This particular model was made in Texas, USA (as opposed to some receivers being made in Spain) sometime during the 90's.

http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_iai.html

The rifle came with sling, oiler bottle (which is retained in the stock by the sling), 1x10 round magazine, 2x15 round magazines and a magazine pouch for the latter. Other than the metal upper handguard, you'd be hard pressed to tell this from a GI M1 carbine, unless you really knew your stuff. I like that the rifle has an open bolt stop, which is handy to slip in the breech flag.

I managed to get the aforementioned at a fraction of the price of some M1 Carbines distributed by ITL shooting supplies so I'm chuffed I found this bargain when I did. I'm really looking forward to doing a nice write up on this rifle, including lots of nice pictures, load development and range time of course!

You won't be disappointed. Although my 6.5x47L was made by Baldie at Valkyrie Rifles it is easily one of my favourite calibres that I shoot. Shooting Fig11's at 1,000 yards is a doddle with this cartridge, get those 123gr bullets >2,900fps and you'll get great results.

What action and barrel length did you go for? What stock/chassis do you have in mind for it?
