Anyone one here from Canada who applied for FAC

#1 Post by mudgnome »

Hi,
could not find a new members area so hi all.I am going through my probation shoot with my local club, then with full membership I
want to apply for a FAC.
I came back to the U.K. in 2016 after thirty years, have a current canadian firearms licence, non restricted and restricted obviously not recognised here in the U.k..But anyone here know what the police would require for background check in Canada.

If anyone has gone through applying for an FAC and are Canadian any help would be great.

sorry for the long winded post.

So are you a resident of the UK now, or dual citizenship or still 'Canadian'?

If you're a UK resident or dual citizenship I can't see it being any different to anyone elses application here. Everyone is checked out by their local police force and has an Interpol check done on them.

It may also depend on where you are ... and a call to your local FEO will probably help.

We have a club member from Canada. He joined the NRA first and got his FAC and transferred some of his 'collection' from Canada to the UK - the FAC was granted with some of his rifles and shotgun already listed with serial numbers. It was all straight forward but then this was about 20 years ago. I don't think he had to do the full probationary period either.

The poor fellow has since moved to Scotland and I've not spoken to him for a while.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

Thanks all for the info, yeah I’m duel citizen,I live in the Avon and somerset area I have been told they can be slow.
On the application form it mentions other GP’s in the last ten years,I did not have a GP as such but a pain clinic for my back injury ,better put that down also I guess.
I think all the local police forces will have a more keen eye in the future with last week’s incident in Plymouth.

oh yeah…came back to look after my mum,
cheers

My club has two new members who have immigrated into the UK and have applied for FAC's this year. In each case the FEO required a reference from the country-of-origin's Police. These were given no problem - one was from Israel, the other Sweden. The Police dealt with the whole thing though.
So I'd suspect that they will ask for a reference from the RCMP, assuming it's them who administer the Canadian licensing system.

My dad and mum came back from Canada (north battleford area) after living in his home made log cabin around 1950. I remember him saying to me a few years later that he greatly missed his guns ,shot moose etc for food and in the winters nearly starving . He did not get a licence as he said it was too much trouble over here and nothing to shoot anyway ...but thats how my love started .....for the many stories of tracking in the wild, 40 below in the winter, but the summer's and the fall, to die for... Gee wiz.... wish I could move there....

I have joined the Riflemans firearms range in Hambridge and live in a small village close to Bridgwater.
