Air pistol accuracy at 20 yds?

#1 Post by 1066 »

I occasionally shoot 10m air pistol in a fairly casual way and, having tested the pistols from a fixed rest know that they are capable of putting all their pellets through the same hole at 10m, so I also know all the many flyers on the target are down to me.

Kent area run 20 yard air pistol comp and although I've never entered or even ever shot the air pistol at 20 yds I thought it might be interesting to see what sort of group it was capable of at that distance.

The pistol I used was an old (1980's) CO2 Walther CP-2 match pistol, open sights, Hobby pellets, from a sandbag. I'm sure this could be significantly improved, Hobby are "training" pellets, a bit cheap and cheerful but half the price of good match pellets. Shooting from a rest with open sight is not ideal for my 70+ old eyes as the sights are too near.
From a fixed rest with better pellets I think this group could be reduced by about half.
This is the result - group is 1.2".
