Which moderator do you use ?

#1 Post by TJC »

I've got a spare slot on my ticket for a .30 cal moderator and wondered which one you use / like or want to recommend ? Accuracy is the most important feature for me so and I'd rather buy once cry once so am not put off by price if it is worth it. Limited POI shift, minimal disturbance to barrel harmonics and an ability to handle a high number of rounds in a short period are more important than reducing sound by a few decibels. Happy to consider QD or direct attach models.

Who do you think makes the best moderator and why ?

Onelesscharlie on this forum builds bespoke moderators to suit all sorts of things and they seem to have a good reputation.

Wildcat Predator 8 on the Steyr, nicely made, strips easily for cleaning. Was hoping to get a couple of DM80s from Dave Mercer but despite ordering the first one in May I've still not got it and he's not replied to any emails :bad:

For range use where weight is not really a consideration I use an ase utra S7, built like a tank.

I've got a T5AR on my .223 tikka. I think I'll buy a northstar for my 6.5x55 when funds allow

What are the best moderators made from? Steel ? Stainless steel? Nickel? Waspalloy ? Titanium ?

How much do they weigh ?

Is performance related to the material they are made of, or the weight, or both? How about the internal construction ?
