Yes just one 'lug' and a very close fitting diameter so it would be well supported, also I would not expect the nut to be overly tight. It is an emergency solution only.

If it's the original barrel, factory fitted they are *&^%$ tight. you will need a good barrel vice of some sort. (they don't need to be very tight when being refitted)

What caliber is the barrel - you will need the go/no go gauges as well.

Can anyone help with this, please? I have a new barrel to fit to a Savage F/TR and it's proving nigh on impossible to get hold of a wrench at a sensible price, or even at all....................the Savage importer, Edgar Bros, "doesn't get involved with this aspect", and "anyway, Savage stuff is taking 5 months to arrive"
I'm happy to pay for a loan of one.............

BTW DON'T grip the receiver too far away from the thread. I bent the rails on one.

I think we're going to grip the barrel just in front of the chamber. It's a bit meatier than the receiver.

We were with some of the Continental Palma team last week and I was very impressed with the way one was swapping barrels, he just screwed them on by hand, backed them off a 3/4 turn then spun them round by hand to lock them and that was it, job done. The barrel had two registers on the tenon which helped no end. It is interesting to see just how many MR &TR shooters also only hand tighten barrels.

Yes the correct spanner is always best.
