Re: Opinion Required
hi Mike,
It's a Rem M700 action. Holds 5-rds, with hinged mag floorplate. Stock is not adjustable. It's a sand Brown H-S Precision synthetic target stock with aluminum bedding blocks.
Only other info I have right now is detailed in the first post. like I said, knowing the source I doubt it will be a duffer...seller has a reputation to keep.
Weighing up the pro's and cons cos I want an FN Police semi auto shotgun
http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firea ... id=FNM0018
and a decent pistol...Maybe an HK USP...those two items would cost LESS than this one rifle...and I can always scope the Sig if I want to shoot to 5/600..

Re: Opinion Required
Now that's a nice shotgun!
Personally, I'd prefer proper bottom metal to accommodate a mag but 5 rounds is not a bad compromise. Non adjustable stock is fine if you can get a good cheek contact and a decent sight picture. but otherwise the stock is a good un.
At this stage, I'd shoot it and see and find out about the barrel and round count.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: Opinion Required
Sounds pretty standard, really Chuck. The price is fair, for the sum of it's parts......
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Opinion Required
Won't get to shoot it till August when i am back but I have first dibs...my US counterparts think it's OK but the shotgun/handgun combo would be more dsirable..not that handguns are easy to get, most I look at are sold out.
Also thinking it will be bult for the Average Yank, who is generally bigger than me.
I am also thinking for the same dosh ($3000) I could get the Shotgun, a pistol AND a half decent accurate rifle (Savage keeps geting thrown at me) out the box, definitely something with a magazine which I prefer...I got a scope (Leupold LRT mildot 8.5-25x50) and bipod already and I don't do match type shooting..
Choices eh.

What choice? You've said it all above. One pistol, one shotgun and a rifle to put the scope on you already have! A no brainer, Chuck.

And I'll attest that the Savage really ais an outstanding gun out of the box......

Re: Opinion Required
I gotta agree with your logic Sim...much as I enjoyed longer range shooting with my Accuracy it is all about value for money and tools for the job as it were...
Also I am pretty sure this rifle will NOT fit me much as it sounds nice...I'll use it over 4 days and see how i get on..but i'll scope the Sig just in case.....
I know the Sig, shotgun and pistol can all betaken to any indor/outdoor range...unlike a custom target/scout rifle...And apart from the Savage I could allso look at an M10, SCAR, G3, M14 etc etc
Any recommendations on the Savage then Sim...my colleagues have them but I have never shot one..are they mag fed?

Re: Opinion Required
You can certainly have them mag fed! My choice for a Tac rifle now would be the Model 10 FCP-SR. And Impact guns have them in stock for $1019.....!!
http://www.impactguns.com/savage-10-fcp ... 94800.aspx
Oh, and they also have the FN shotgun in stock for $1149
http://www.impactguns.com/fn-slp-self-l ... 01229.aspx
And really, why are you looking at the USP? It was good...... 15 years ago! I had one of the first in the UK. Didn't keep it long. High bore line and an overly chunky slide recoiling against a polymer frame gave an over exagerated recoil impulse. You want the best kept secret in service handguns at the minute? The Ruger SR9. Polymer, striker fired as per the vogue. Low bore line, slim, 17rnd mag and a host of other features. And guess what? Impact has these in stock as well for $389!!
http://www.impactguns.com/ruger-sr9-9mm ... 33010.aspx
So there you have it. Tactical bolt gun ready for your Leupold, FN shotgun and a Ruger pistol, all at the same place for $2557!!! I've even saved you $443! So, a $200 tax stamp and $243 towards a mod for the Savage........
Don't worry, I don't charge a consultancy fee!

Re: Opinion Required
you are so generous Sim, thanks for the research..I like the HK cos it fits my wee hands..and I shoot it well. any Rugers I have seen have been plagued with stoppages.
Spent a lot of time on the Glock 17, simple and effective...and just keeps going.
Off to check out the Savage.
thanks Sim and others.
just looked, yes that would do nicely................ :goodjob:

Re: Opinion Required
Small hands? Perfect for the SR9. It is reknowned for the ergonomics of it. Stoppages? Forget the P85/P89 series, the SR9 is a different ballgame. Patrick Sweeney took one and 6500 rounds through it in one day. Within a couple of days, shoved 10000 through it and within a week, shoved 15000 rounds through the SR9 with only one stoppage, an that was attributed to one of the test team wearing heavy gloves!
The only reason they are still making the USP is because of 24! If Jack Bauer hadn't have had one, H&K would have dropped it a long time ago.....
