Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
Split to keep the other on track.

After seeing the T3 sporter online and reading a fair amount about it, I ordered one in 6.5x55 (Was a pressie from my Mrs for my 40th)
It eventually arrived - The action and barrel were fine (usual Tikka!) - the thread, hmm not so good, topped off by the thread protector had been forced on and cross threaded.
The stock looked like it had been finished by a 4 year old with some very course sandpaper. The bolt shroud was already cracked (T3 problem and I have a replacement metal one on my Varmint already)
I was not happy my RFD was not happy and I would have not accepted it had he been willing to hand it over. He replaced it with a T3 Varmint which shoots like a dream. Ordered the GRS Hunter stock for it and that should not be long arriving.

I like the styling of the T3 Sporter, equally the GRS which is probably why I like Christel's S&L Sporter so much as they are all vaguely reminiscent of the Biathlon type stocks. Are you going for the GRS Sporter or Hunter stock?
Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
Doh - no idea why I put hunter above, I should have put sporter/varmint

Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
After seeing a Tikka T3 in action I would be quite happy to own one and thought that the Sporter version looked like a good value package - certainly at £1300.
But I have also being keeping an eye on the lovely GRS rifle stocks and have mentally put several rifles together over the last few months. Really good to see that they have a wide range of inletting options, not just Tikka, or Remington 700 for that matter. The one thing that has stopped me going that route is that I don't believe that there is a 10 round magazine option today. I did read a reply on the accurate shooter forum from the USA importer saying that they had been on to GRS re making a model which accepts the AICS magazine and they are currently designing it. Unfortunately nothing on the GRS website to confirm this and no sign of a release date yet.
Should you know of a 10 round mag that fits the Tikka do please let us know the details,

Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
I love my T3 Super Varmint! Super from 300yds out to 1000!
Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
I love my tikka T3 varmint in 223! So much so that both my 6.5x55 and 308 slots will be filled with tikka T3's when funds allow! I really fancy putting the roedale chassis system on a t3 varmint! Would be lovely!
I think tho for the price of the new sporter model your better off buying a second hand T3 and buying a nice aftermarket stock like the grs pse etc would still work out cheaper!

Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
The only real issue of the T3 in .223 seems to be the very short OAL for loaded rounds when fed from the magazine, other than that it is a cracking rifle.
Re: Split Tikka T3 Sporter thread
I intend on sorting that with the cdi bottom metal and the aics mags. I'm saving for them and a Joe west A5 clone laminate stock:)
