I'm thinking of buying a 17fireball second hand. I shot it last night and really loved it. Grouping was very good but the rifle, Rem 700 was heavy.
What are the ups and downs of this caliber please?

Re: 17 fireball
I've never shot one but I think it'd be a great little cartridge.
It depends entirely on what you want to do with it. .17" Rifles in general are limited by the small, light bullets. Fast and flat but they haemorrhage energy and speed at distance. I'd check out the "17 Caliber Reloading Guide" on www.accurateshooter.com for an overview of what .17s are all about.
Obviously if you have experience of other .17" Caliber Rifles and are looking for specifics about the Fireball then completely disregard everything I've just said!

Re: 17 fireball
Thanks for the info. Sorry I should have said its for fox at night with NV. I'm thinking of this caliber as it point and shoot up to 200yrds.

I'm having one of these built by Ireland custom rifles as I had most cal's for foxing and fancied something different... it'll also cover any distance I think is safe to shoot under a lamp at night ... 200 - 230 meters.
