My youngest shooting our Browning pattern 1919A4 semi auto in 7.62mm. As we are shooting in California the belt can only hold 10 rounds. Now that makes a lot of sense!! The rate of fire can be pretty quick from the tripod but the range master told us to keep it slow because of the crowd at the rifle line. It was the day after New Years and everyone was out trying their new toys.

According to one of my mates in California anyway. And something about you can have as many handguns as you like, but you can only have 3 which are assembled at the same time ?

Well, sort of. There is a list of prohibited features on a semi auto rifle or shotgun that cause the shrouded magazine release to be needed such as a pistol grip or flash hider. With the magazine release such that a 'tool' (tip of bullet) is needed to release the magazine then you can have the evil features previously mentioned. If the rifle does not have a pistol grip or flash hider (a muzzle brake is ok) then no special magazine release is required. It is all very acane and complicated and almost as if the laws were designed to snare the unaware. Since the Browning has the pistol grip behind the receiver and not below it the only restriction is on the number of rounds in a belt, unless you owned the belt before a certain date. Confused yet? :G

There is no law requiring handguns to be disassembled. They do have to be stored in an approved safe or locker or secured with a trigger lock or cable lock. This is widely ignored. You can have as many as you wish as long as you are 21 or older, possess a handgun safety card (exemption for active or retired military or law enforcement), pass a criminal background check for each purchase and wait 10 days. Each state is different as far as requirements go but all require a computerized criminal background records check.

I've been shooting Tula sovietski steel case .308 FMJ but due to the fire risk this time of year from the bimetal bullets and rocks downrange I was shooting Radway Green 90s vintage ball. The previous RG ball I had bought was super accurate but this stuff on MG links was 4" groups at 100 yds out of my 7.62mm rifles so it is dedicated exclusively to the Browning.

At the federal level in the U.S. if anyone buys 3 handguns at the same time a multiple handgun (not sure the exact name) ATF form is filled out by the dealer and submitted to ATF to track multiple handgun purchases, though you can own as many as you want, just buying three at a time draws extra scrutiny.

You are correct, on the federal level multiple firearms purchases are reported on a form to the ATF. In California you can only purchase one handgun a monthunless you have a 'certificate of eligibility' which is an additional level of background checking plus fingerprints and an additional fee all of which is good for a finite period of time. With the COE you have a platinum pass to bypass some gun regulations that slow or impede the rest of the herd. I couldn't be bothered to get one.

Me too! I don't know whether its just the people who write the anti-gun legislation in the US are utter morons who base it on what they've seen from Hollywood, or just the NRA is such a good lobby group, but the restrictions they've got are almost comical and seem to be based on asthetics rather than the actual mechanism of the gun! :G

No pistol grip? No problem gimme a straight stock! No 'flash-hider' but i can have a muzzle brake - duurrr! 10rd mags only? Ok i'll practice my reloading :lol:

Versus the 'rip its guts out' stuff we have in the UK; No full-auto, no semi-auto full-bore, no pistols* etc. If only i could afford to emmigrate!

*yes i know you can do a full circus act of jumping through hoops or have a 'hobbled' version but i'm talking about the real deal!
