Dillon Super Swage 600 owners - advice please

I recently got a Dillon SS600 as I have a load of GGG brass I want to reuse for reloading. Does anyone who has one have any advice (above and beyond what's in the manual) for getting it set up so it isn't swaging too much or too little, or is it as simple as try it and see how the primers fit?

Not got one (yet) but there is an easy modification online for them.
Consists of a rubber band or three....so that the unit ejects the swaged brass...

I've only set up the swager on a Dillon press so I'm not familiar with the specifics of the Super-swage, but the following were very useful:

Thanks guys. I like the idea of sectioning a case so I can see how it looks so might try that. From reading a few articles on them, the principle of 'less is more' seems to be a consistent message, so will try and light touch first and make sure I'm not over-swaging.

Yep, I have one. Having spent an age messing with 556 brass reaming out the pockets I bought one of these.

Its trial and error I am afraid. You will probably still see the ring where the GGG has crimped but the edge will eb smoothed out.

Less is definately more as you dont want to deform the base of the primer pocket/case.

Dont waste time messing with rubber bands, this is a job with a coffee and you may want to inspect the off one before it goes west.

You may find the unit works better if you gently feed the mandrel into the primer picket rather than bludgeoning it to death as this will give you a lop sides effect that will mean ditching the case.

It may also centre better if the cases are sized, although I tend to do mine as soon as they are de capped. I find a bit of sizing wax dabbed onto the mandrel gives a better action.

Personally, I would like to see a much less agressive taper on the probe/anvil that the case sits on, although I guess this is a trade-off of ham fisted impatient yanks against better load distribution on the case head....either way they work...and are a nice shade of blue!!!

It is one of those tools that makes milsurp brass that's any good worthwhile.

It also changes for different cases. When I tried 5.56 Lake City brass it was set perfectly, but then I tried either .GGG or Ruag (can't remember which) and it needed adjusting. They used different crimp methods so whether this was due to difference in the cartridge base thickness or down to the method of crimp I was trying to remove I couldn't say without further investigation.

Hmmm that's interesting. Before signing on here I had just gotten through removing the crimp on some 5.56 range pick up brass. it was a mix of lake city with some RUAG and other milsurp stuff in there. Didn't need to adjust my SS 600 at all, all went nice and smooth with crimps removed.

Just found this post and wondered if there is any further info?
I have just bought the tool for use on GGG 5.56 reloads hoping that it would be easier than my Sinclair/Wilson reamer.
The adjustment instructions have been followed.... several times.
I am also trying out the results with a Ballistic Tools gauge.
The problem I have is that the primer pocket base is being considerably indented (offset indent) by the case support rod well before I get a crimp removed.
I would have to ream the base of the pocket with a uniformer by about 10 thou to make it flat again and thus feels like too much brass removal!
The rod is easily skewed despite aligning per instructions.
It seems like a gross design fault to have the rod way narrower than the pocket.
Any experiences or advice?
I am at the point of throwing the damned thing away!

I've been happily using mine for a few years now and haven't had any issues with it at all (and I'm resizing GGG 5.56 with it). Can you share a picture of the issue? I'll get mine out and have a look too.

I have tried taking a picture but the pockets are too small to show the indent. Its clearly the case support rod skewed off to one side and raising the pocket base in towards the case neck.
I can't understand why it isn't much nearer the pocket diameter in order to support it fully.
To load a primer as-is will leave it proud but to ream out 10 thou or more from the inside of the pocket base would concern me.....as well as being a pain!
