The hole in a cap rings a bell. Didn't we have somebody on the forum a while ago who worked on open sights in a similar manner?

as long as you have a scope that has a fine enough reticle and focuses down to your range you should be good, how much you want to spend is up to you, and crystal clear optics worth it or not for the extra money? I'll leave that to you
