Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
Hi I have decided to spruce up my SSG P1 it is still one of the most acurate rifles I own. I have changed the magazine housing for a metal one and fitted it with A1 magazines. I would like to upgrade the Khales scope that it came with. My eye sight is terrible. I would like to fit a 30mm tube scope. I have looked at buying a rail for it or a set of suitable 30mm rings but Im struggling to find any thing to fit. Any body got any ideas . I have two of the khales ZF 84 6x42 scopes this one is calibrated to .308 the other is calibrated to 6.5x55. ( have the original .308 calibration ring for the 6.5 one..) they have been and still are great scopes but the last shoot I was at the target was set at one hundred yards with one inch squares on a 6"x6" card and I struggled to see the black dot in the middle.
I quite fancy fitting it into a new stock but I have came up blank with that as well. Some one said the TIKKA T3 has the same size ring base as the SSG any one know if that is the case.

Re: Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
The one I sold was in a McMillan stock so I know they do an inlet for the SSG69.
Re: Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
I had a rummage through my boxes of bits I believe I have a set of 30mm mounts that will do the job.
I looked on the McMillan web site the stock was not available. I can live with the stock if I can get a better more modern scope on it I will be happy. My eye sight is shocking now adays. I have a nightforce I would like to mount on it.

T3 rings will not fit. The SSG69 P1 has a dovetail so measure it and see what rings are available. Alternatively make a sub base to accept a Weaver or Picatinny rail. I am doing exactly this for an Anschutz that requires a 75MOA rail right now. I even have a CAD drawing I did that you are welcome to use/modify to your hearts content.
Re: Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
Here you go, it is my working sketch so without convention however it will give you an idea. The adapter is slid into place and locked by M81.00 grub screws, you would need to incorporate a recoil lug or pin on the Steyr version.
In simple terms it is a block with a dovetail cut on the lower edge and a rail screwed to the upper and this will end up a bit lower than the drawing as I will shorten the locking screws slightly.

Thanks that might be the way to go.
Re: Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
It looks like a set of dovetails is the way forward I can not find a set of 30mm to fit. I will have a look at making a set at the weekend. If I have time.

I use Solid Works 2016 and Sketchup Pro 2018, the rail was drawn with the latter which I use for all of my quick 'sketches' The Sketchup free version also works incredibly well and I used it for many years.
From memory, you will need a 10 or 12mm 60 degree dovetail cutter, take out the majority of the material with an end mill and then finish with the dovetail cutter, run it slower than you think you should!

Re: Advice required on SSG P1 scope mounts
I thought I had a suitable 60 degree dovetail cutter but I dont. I have ordered a 10mm x 60 degree dovetail cutter it wont arrive till midweek. In the mean time Im still looking for a suitable base or a set of 30mm rings that will fit. I have a nightforce scope still in its box waiting patiently.
hmm whats next. Not enough hours in the day. I need a bigger shed.
