I went from a Nissan 300ZX twin-turbo to a 3.0 V6 Mitsubishi Shogun Sport Equippe and never looked back.Spent next to nothing on it over the last 4 years, it is comfortable, plenty fast enough and not too bad on fuel considering.I can get everything I need in, I can chuck the dog in the back and still get a fridge freezer in it!

If it's not going to be a main use car then anything will suffice
Is it going to be used on the road i.e. Does it need to be Road legal or will it be left on the permission somewhere
The list of 4 x 4 can be endless
Four track
Sport track
SJ Suzuki
Vitara
Grand vitara
Jeep variants
Classic range rover ( took me 4 years to kill one of these doing no maintenance to it and it was hammered )
Frontara
Just trawle eBay, auto trader and low bay etc and don't discount anything

Consider one of the bigger 4x4s - 4 litre plus. They get VERY cheap when older as owners cannot afford to run them. But if just for shooting, should be ok.

The original Freelander is remarkably capable off road despite having a reputation for being a hair dressers car. We have used one for hauling feed around for the pens and it has never got stuck, downside is it is a Land Rover so it will need work. The Defender 2 can be picked up for sensible money as well however they are not as capable as people would have you believe, especially when you have just slithered into a ditch at midnight a mile from the nearest road... :)

Avoid Defenders unless you know exactly what you are buying.

Ah yes, Lurcher taxis and if the number being impounded around Lincolnshire is anything to go by, they are very capable!
