Well....I passed with 98% for 8 hours study.

Newss is that they are hoping to have a NRA two day RCO course with the MOD element as a 1 day add on.

Congratulations sir .

You will need to watch out for things changing in the future as you don't get informed automatically.

For example, I wasn't aware that they made changes to the HME zeroing procedure after I got my qualififcation, nor that they had replaced RASPs with RAMs.

Thanks I will give them a bell on Monday it might be cost effective if may be a couple of local clubs shared the cost. I have no idea how much it costs so just gathering info at the moment.

Seems minimum of six, maximum around 10. £90 each per attendee which includes manual and badges and such stuff. Then it was £150 for the instructor to cover travel and costs. Obviously, this will vary if hotels etc are involved.

Alpha 1 why dont you open it up to members from other clubs in north east, I woul do it happily.
Sim G, the last time I shot on Ponteland range was at Northumbria police open day when you could compete in small comps using police model 19s and 18 inch double barrel viking arms shotguns with solids and SG !!!!

Hmm the cynical side of me thinks that what was covered on 1 course will in future be 2 separate courses, with I would expect 2 fees....

So what is the point of the NRA RCO course if it doesn't equip you for running MoD ranges?

Does this course just qualify you to RCO at Bisley?

Does it then follow that if you want an RCO course outside of Bisley to run MoD ranges then that will now be a three day course?

My regional course was ran to cover MoD ranges. Every one of us on the course shoots at Altcar, we even had a talk from the range warden to give us an insight into it from his point of view as the guy we would be dealing with when we sign on.

As an aside, ours was a 3 day thing but that was because we overran rather than programmed in to be 3 days if I remember correctly.

As I understand it, the NRA wish to run an RCO course which would be suitable training for affiliated shooting clubs and members who do not, nor ever will, shoot on MoD ranges, but want the training. So non-MoD full bore ranges. Why go through all the MoD stuff if you never get to apply it? Better to take all the useful information on safety and concentrate on that rather than filling in paperwork!
The HME is currently an add-on which is taught on the second part of day two of the course and is optional and no additional charge.
