New scope

#1 Post by bhodge »

If you had £200 to spend on a new scope what would you buy?
In my case it would be fitted to a .223 for plinking/target shooting over about 200yds.
Some might say £200 isn't enough, but it's really all I can afford. All suggestions gratefully received.

Vortex worth a look.
Laurie and the gun pimp will be on soon to advise on a range of cheap scopes.

Get a Chinese scope from Fox Firearms - his 8-32 is only £125 (but sold elsewhere for more than double that) and is excellent for a Chinese scope. Honestly, the optics are remarkable.

8-32x56(50) from fox firearms is best option
Brought a P14 with one already on it
regularly shoot 300 with it and last weekend was shooting at 600 with no problems
Optics aren't the greatest but for just over £100 absolutely nothing to complain about

I've seen in the last few days a 20 x 42 Edgar Brothers Optimate scope for sale on another forum (for about the £200 mark).

I believe these are marketed as the Sniper Scope series from SWFA in the states and come with great reviews.

I have 2; both a 20 x and 10 x and they are great scopes for the money.

Thanks for the advice guy's.
I didn't go for any of your suggestions directly, but I have ordered a Vortex from 'Opticswarehouse'.
I decided on their 4-12x40AO Crossfire II, basically I wanted a bit more magnification.
Thanks again all.

I used one for a while (until the one I wanted arrived) and shot out to 800yrds at Diggle Ranges, used it for an F class comp (but not on a F class rifle); it wasn't the scope that let me down but the factory ammunition (prior to starting to handload [.308 and 6.5CM]) - for the money you won't regret it.
