Whitaker Special Pictures

#1 Post by Strangely Brown »

Given that Bert Whitaker's son Christopher has posted on the thread below concerning Geoff Hart's conversion of a No4 to a 7.62mm target rifle, lets look at Bert's creation which inspired Geoff Hart.

Overall view.

20 Ton proof mark (ahead of it's time!)

Overall this is a beautiful to shoot, it's comfortable and gives a good head position at all ranges.

I know nothing about these things but the action looks like a No4 Mk something but without the wrist strap, is this the case and if so how is the action held in place in the one piece stock?

The Whittaker Special was the first rifle I shot at Bisley years ago. I borrowed it from Bert Whittaker himself and this was his own rifle,I thik.
First and only time ever I shot a 2 point sling and I enjoyed it together with the rifle.

The action was much modified to be bedded in a conventianl fashion in a one-piece stock.

Thanks guys, if someone has a picture of an action out of the stock I would be very interested to see it.
