OK which AK Part 3 (last part honest then again maybe not)

#1 Post by Zilberbak »

Having managed to get my variation back in double quick time I trundled down the motorway to Oleg's and purchased a Bulgarian BARR (Bolt Action Repeating Rifle) M2F in 7.62 x 39 with a few extra bits and pieces. Now a proud owner of a near as dammit AK. Ordered a reel of black paracord off of Amazon to soften any bite from the under-folder stock (although a Plan B is available with a CAA stock adaptor to mount a buffer tube and AR style stock if required - practical if not traditional). A visit to Severnside in the next couple of weeks may lead to a Part 4 (apologies).

I will try it without the paracord first - honest!!!!!!!!

....and don't forget the rubber butt pad (I think the 75 drum mag makes up for any dent in macho status).

My main concern is the price for any dental work after each shoot.

Never even heard of that action, is it closer to MARS or lever release ?

No it is Bulgarian for "straight pull".

Just found Polemass's post back in December he went for green paracord!!!!!! I bet he had some left as well.

Congrats...and welcome in the club....no,no paracord left-used all(is very helpful in shtf scenario...)
Few words as intro- "D" on the sight is for 100m,zeroed,not the "1"!
Look for side charging handle-if you think about any competitions, or accept a lot of " stove pipes"...
I am in the process of "conquering" 300m distance.... 100 is a lot of fun,200 is bit more demanding?
If you decide to fit a scope let me know and I will give you some tips;-)
Enjoy mate!

Thanks for the info.

I had Oleg put a on side rail (it does lose the under-fold functionality but I can live with that) and have ordered a cheap UTG AK picatinny rail to slide on to it if I can get it past the rear sling point. Oleg is developing an adaptor that allows for sliding in from the other side but is WIP at the moment. Probably will only put a red dot on initially either a Mepro M21 or a multi-recticle Lucid that I have.

It will be interesting how it compares to my VZ58 SP. It is definitely a 100/200 yard gun for me and I am going to see if I can get a few other of my club members who have AK variants to have a club comp over that sort of distance. It would be nice to have a national Warsaw Pact league to see how badly we can all shoot.

I have a Bradley for trying CSR (hopefully soon).

You'll find the "D" mark is the equivalent mark to the Cyrillic letter "P" on Russian AKs and is infact the "Battlefield Zero" mark. With the rifle correctly zeroed at 100m on the "1" marking the "D" position will allow you to pretty much hit a man-sized target at centre mass from 0-300m without adjusting the rear sight position.
If you set the rear sight to "D", note the sight elevation and then move it to "3" you will see the angle is the same........in combat the Russians pretty much leave the rear sight on the "P" setting all the time so as not to keep trying to adjust the sight when under fire.

Paracord around stock is too Imperialistic......stock wrapping should be glorious rubber wound tourniquet of the Motherland and rubber buttpad for when shooting glorious VOG-25 from GP-25 grenade launcher, not for Devochki with soft shoulders on range of shooting!!! :p

Great info.

Paracord being delivered today, 100m of it so might wrap the whole rifle!!!!!!!!!

Was thinking of using a short section of 15mm slit neoprene pipe insulation with insulation tape, probably more in keeping with Soviet accessory manual. The rubber butt pad needed because of an old war wound sustained in the Great DIY war of 2014 when I ripped my tendons off of my elbow, OUCH! (Actually didn't hurt that much but made my right arm look like Popeye's).

Fitted the sling last night and pulled everything apart and back togther again. Tried to convince Mrs Z that l needed to go to Severnside today but as l am in a full day comp tomorrow it fell on deaf ears. Lets hope she doesn't find the receipt.
