Ammo for Lantac Raven .223
Hi all,
I have recently acquired a .223 Lantac Raven with a 12" 1:7 twist barrel, what ammo do you suggest?

Out of interest what sort of shooting are you going to be doing, distances etc?
Re: Ammo for Lantac Raven .223
I bought it to start taking part in the CSR shoots at Bisley, after a bit of practice, but 100 to 500 yards...I am going to shoot it for the first time next weekend but I only have 55gn Hornady target in my safe which is great for my other .223 but that is 1:12 twist and don't know whether to get different gn .223 for this due to twist, to play with next weekend?

Well with a 1/7 twist you'll need something heavy like 77gn
My AR loved HPS 77gn SMK ammo,

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Good man, you'll enjoy it. With that length barrel you won't be as accurate as 18-20" barrelled Ar's at 4,5,600 yards, but will be ok from 300 to 25 yards. Try a few GGG 62g @ 300 & see how you get on, the targets are generous.Dr.D wrote:I bought it to start taking part in the CSR shoots at Bisley, after a bit of practice, but 100 to 500 yards...I am going to shoot it for the first time next weekend but I only have 55gn Hornady target in my safe which is great for my other .223 but that is 1:12 twist and don't know whether to get different gn .223 for this due to twist, to play with next weekend?

The 1:7 will stabilise most .223 bullets from the lighter weight options too - such as the 52gr A-Max - as the twist was designed to work with both the new SS109 round AND the original M193 round
Try a few different weights & see what it prefers
My 1:9 LOVES the 52gr A-Max, yet for years I mainly looked for 62gr & similar for it!

Friends 1:7 .223 barrel loves 69g SMK's, lovely bullet. Anothers also loves the 69s which is a 1:9 barrel.
Re: Ammo for Lantac Raven .223
My Raven has the same twist rate, slightly longer barrel, works well enough with 62gr GGG ammo.
