It varies depending on the spring.

Tree fern hasn't sprouted after that terrible winter and the cordylines have had it. :(

Yeah the winter was bad.
Normally Blackthorn flowers in March or thereabouts. Hawthorn in May.

Everything really has been slow to start this year.

Do you have sloes on that bush?

If not then it is a Hawthorn.

When they both are in flower I struggle to tell the difference. What helps me is the time of year. Which of course this year can be a bit of a problem!
