£11,000 too much... Well its a lot of money, that's for sure, but I have seen them go for more and this does look to be in very good order.... Add to this a finite supply and the value will just continue to rise, of that I am sure.

I spent a wonderful day last autumn shooting and comparing the No4T,L42 and my 1903A4... all great rifles, but the L42 was a delight to shoot!

Rather have a DSR....wash your mouths out with soap and leave the Military and Historic section immediately! there nothing for you here

The L42 has over 100 years of Enfield soul behind it...the DSR has....well, a lot of plastic!

I pin my colours to the L42 mast any day of the week!

In the end it is provenance and the fact it has everything being a Full Equipment Schedule rifle with matching numbers. You could probably get a better condition 7.62 No4 variant for much less. Certainly there are few of those "Armourer Special - Enforcer look alike" rifles you see on Gunstar regularly but you aint getting the provenance! It is a collectors item in the end, if Money was no object would want it in a blink of an eye but sadly the lottery hasn't come off yet!

If you can afford to lose 11 grand, then good luck. But investment wise, in the UK, I wouldn't look at them being long term.....

AT the end of the day it is what it's worth to you as a collector or shooter. To some people or a serious collector 11k isn't a huge sum so it becomes less of a deal breaker- I mean look at the value of some shotguns at big retailers, the prices always amaze's me but there's obviously a trade in it. However the UK rifle market is a fairly limited market occupied mainly by enthusiasts. So I'm sure this rifle will sell it will just be a case of finding the correct parties with the readies.

I'm not convinced this is a numbers matching - the scope itself has older No4T serial number on it with orginal markings over stamped / crossed out, the scope mount has a number matching the gun which is good, the lower forend has a different number on it, the cases themselves for the scope and the crate seem to have been sanded and restencilled / free handed later.

Whilst it's complete I'm not convinced - though I freely admit to being unsure.

I'd certainly not give 11 grand for it, and whatever I was prepared to pay for it I'd be having a word with Peter Laidler et al on milsurps forum to get some idea of the provenance.

TBH - I think the No4T looks better with the full forend, I have an L8A4 that I'm thinking of using a repro No32 scope on it to have a No4T lookey likey but that shoots 7.62 with all the benefits therin. Nothing against 303 - I just forgot to put a 303 slot on me ticket hence ending up with an L8

Good point Simon, but the same "risk" can be said of modern expensive fangled target rifles, so (government taking all our fun away aside) I would still go with the L42, it will carry on going up in value, while the fancy plastic bang pipe will steadily drop in value from the moment you leave the gun shop!

Banning sniper rifles would be a political doddle. The organisations would treat the matter as being a sacrificial lamb provided their rifle of choice wasn't affected.

The government would be in disbelief that any law abiding rifle shooter could need or provide good reason to own anything with a nato stock number.

Claiming back £11k for an L42 would more than likely exceed any limits in compensation.

Agreed......If you have such a beast, never use use the term "Sniper" when dealing with your FEO.....its a Marksmen's rifle....

I am no expert, but £11,000 sounds a hell of a lot of money - I am sure I saw one on C & G's web-site a few years back for around £5,000. I know price varies according to condition, but have they really gone up this much?
