Storage and Alarms

I know the subject of alarms has been done to death somewhat on the forum. Some background, I've just out in for another variation, to add 8 more slots to my FAC including 2 unused slots already on there. I've received a call from my FLD saying that they won't approve it as the house only has an audible alarm and that I've now hit their 15 gun per house limit. They claim that I now have to fit a monitored alarm.

I told them in polite terms to stop talking crap as there is already a further 12 guns in the house on my Dad's FAC and SGC.

I know the security guidance is fairly vague in alarms and states something along the lines of that an alarm of some sort is recommended once 10'or more guns are in situ. Where do I go from here on this?

Pretty sure that the guidance is explicit in that number of firearms cannot be given as a sole reason for needing an alarm.

The Guidance to Police states that the NUMBER of guns ALONE is NOT a good enough reason to insist on an alarm.

They tried that on me years ago when I was only asking for 30 slots on my FAC.

At the end of the day it is security in relation to the risk.

I wrote back explaining to them that I though what they were asking was excessive in relation to the risk, low crime area, guns kept in differing cabinets on three levels in the house with bolts kept in cabinets with different rifles, existing house alarm, good window and door locks, reinforced door jambs. told them I wasn't an RFD so wasn't advertising that I held firearms.

They wrote back saying that the current security was acceptable and at the end of the day I was responsible for my firearms security not them.

Challenge them, they can only say no and it will only cost you your time.

Saddler, you tell me different. Of course it differs, just like everything else in relation to FAC/RFD/SGC, all down to the local authority and what works best for them and their customers (us).

Bedfordshire, double figures and you need an alarm. RFD and it needs to be monitored.
