From the A2 version onwards, the lower on the M16/M4 is fitted with a hinged 'Arctic' Trigger Guard. Intended to hinge down by removing one or both pins to accommodate gloved fingers. I have seen those but don't see the point unless one is shooting with gloves etc. Lots of room there as is.
