No it is not. The problem we seem to have here is that an over zealous FEO and/or an over sensitive RFD have come up with an offence that does not exist.
The first thing is, the bayonet is permanently affixed to the rifle. It is not a separate item. It is being treated as a separate item. Is the blade of a lawn mower a separate item? Of course it isn't. As the bayonet is fixed, there is ample good reason and a statutory defence to have this item with him, in a public place, if for a lawful reason. And travelling to, shooting on a range or even showing the rifle in a gunshop is a lawful reason.
To be honest, even if the bayonet was separate, the case would be exactly the same. To or from where ever, in possession of the bayonet in a public place because of some lawful use there a statutory defence! And as for removing the rifle from the home is ridiculous! There is lawful authority to possess the rifle and any amount of bladed or sharply pointed items can be possessed at home.
Is this the sort of rubbish in store for Scots should they "elect" King Alex....?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

There is a statutory defence in regards to work (which covers sports and past times), religious or national dress.

I wouldn't want to be a firearms owner in Scotland if they end up with that blowfish in charge.

Only just clocked this and it is truly bizarre! :cool2: Sounds like Strathclyde FLD is missing it's independence under Police Scotland.
I'm going to make sure I have bayonets for my rifles now! Speaking of which, hopefully they don't get really anal about this an insist that bayonet lugs are removed from rifles.

Strange, used to wear one with my kilt to church every Sunday. Must be a daft lowlander mistake!
Really struggling with the muckwittery of the dealer. Next they'll be demanding that the tip is nipped off. Genuinely wonder if the Police would even have bothered without the RFD getting his knickers in a twist.
Genuinely thrown by this one.
