Mosin Nagant PU sniper - what's it worth?

#1 Post by ptheta »

I'm thinking of thinning my collection out a bit as we're starting a family and I anticipate having reduced range time in the future.

I was hoping to get an idea of what this rifle is worth. It's a PU sniper with matching serial numbers, bayonet and oil bottle but may not be entirely authentic.

There are several close up pictures here mainly of scope and mount but I could probably do with adding some more of the whole rifle and accessories.

I will add more this evening of that will help. The reason there are so many pictures of the scope area is that it was suggested to me that the scope and mount are probably modern replicas rather than the real deal. I think that was BNZ on here?

The stock is in very nice condition, so much so that it does look like it's most likely been refinished at some stage in its life.

Hence I don't really know what I ought to be asking for this if I decide to proceed with a sale. Can you guys help me out with this?

Mine was £650 a couple of years ago from C&G Firearms, I guess you could have a look at their site and see what they are going for and make the price attractive.

I see that C&G has them at £700 and Fultons at £750. I don't suppose it's worth that much privately even with dies, a little ammo and spare brass chucked in. It gives me somewhere to start though, thanks.

These PUs are (very good) replicas set up by a European importer. The scopes and brackets are genuine, but were just added to an unused rifle.

The PU & PE snipers originally were available to the Trade for about £380, and were on retail sale for about £475. Prices seem to have crept up a lot, even though there are a lot of these rifles around...

Suppose it depends on your definition of genuine and unused. Scope is repro (screws on the scope should be domed as per originals). Rifle wouldn't have been unused, not in '43. Unlike sniper rifles these are made with regular infantry rifles rather than something pulled from the production line that displayed exceptional accuracy. Vast majority of 91/30s were refurbed/ refinished post war although it looks varnished, not shellacked.
They seem to go for around £750. Bet it would sell quickly.

Thanks. That's quite a range of values and several things to consider.

If I get some time tomorrow I'll take some more pictures to show it in all its glory and put it up for sale.
