F class, what calibre ?

New Lapua brass can be necked down very nicely as can Norma and RUAG/DAG. I use Forster dies and Imperial Sizing wax and I strongly believe Forster dies are about as good as it gets. I have written a couple of papers on necking down including the stages and tools required, shout if you want copies.

Another options is anything based on a .308 parent cartridge as brass is readily available and cheap.

I haven't tried them myself yet but to be honest the NRA 'F' class short range targets aren't too much of a challenge unless the wind is gusting heavily or fishtailing.

I will always try and shoot smaller targets, the frames are lighter to put out

You are correct - Grant Taylor has won the GB F Class League twice with his 284. Much better barrel-life than the 7mmWSM and if you can read the wind, it'll do the job.

Brass is formed by simply necking-up Lapua's 6.5-284 case. With the new 7mm 180 gn Sierra bullet just announced, it should make this round even more appealing.

Course, you could always go F/TR with a 308Win.

.308" not for me I'm afraid. Notwithstanding it's undoubted abilites its never caught my imagination, far preferred shooting the No 4T to the L42 and my L39 is rarely shot. If I was going to go to 7.62 it would be the 30-06 I would choose.
