Remmy 700 SPS Tactical Scope rail and scope ring question

#1 Post by mikeb »

Just bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223 for a bit of range shooting out to 200 yards. I have a 30mm tube on the scope I bought to put on top. I was thinking of putting on a one piece picatinny rail and getting a set of rings to mount the scope.

Don't want to spend silly money on this just want something reasonable to hold it all together. Any suggestions??

Also, I have seen a couple of scope rail bedding videos on Youtube, worth the effort?

Put a Leupold one piece scope base on it and use Burris Zee Rings. The scope base Is windage adjustable with the rings. Should be able to get the whole lot for about £80. Try JJK Shooting Supplies to get them from. (phone them up rather than use the online website)

If you want something at the "less costly" end of the market DNZ Game Reaper one piece mounts are very good.

EGW rail and Warne rings.

(you might as well have started a "what's the best caliber" thread, the answers all be so varied!! LOL!)
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Thanks guys. I was advised by the guy who I bought the rifle off about the Third Eye tactical rail and then some good steel rings?. I am going to shoot 100 & 200 yards most of the time and occasionally out a bit further, I was going to get the rail with 10moa instead of the 0 or 20. Any opinions on this?

Also is this worth the effort?

I have been told that the 700's are hand finished at the factory and the top of the rifles are never the same so bedding make sense?

I'm not really sure that you would need a 10MOA rail for shooting out to 200m or slightly further. I use one on my .308, but I bought it to shoot to 1000m and decided that the Leupold scope might need a touch of assistance. Just go for the standard 0 MOA and a set of their rings, or a one piece if you are feeling flush.

Hi

We have a Remmy 700 SPS Varmint with a 26" barrel, it's fitted with Leupold standard bases and rings, shoots very well out to 600 with 55gr SMK's so no need for extra MOA if your only doing 100-200 and a bit further.
