All for target then?

The best smile you get is from repeated v shots...not whether it impresses small boys.

A .303 with open sights would fit the bill, factory ammunition is not desperately expensive and you could get a very nice No4 Mk1 and have enough money left over to buy a press and some dies, plus a couple hundred of Dodgyrog's finest and start rolling your own. We have several forum members shooting .303 and I am all set to start shooting cast boolits in my .303's so information will be plentiful in all areas.

Plus you should have enough over for a cheapie 'scoped .22LR for plinking

Oh and enough to buy the wife some flowers......and maybe even leave a couple of quid in the piggy bank.

G'wan - start with a proper old Brit and look on it as the start of you apprenticeship. ;)

Forgot to say, I have a WWI issue P14 that looks rattier than a ratty thing, scuffed and used. First time I shot it was at 800 yards with Christel watching fall of shot, all she said was "Elevation spot on, hit at nine o'clock"

It has a Brindles match trigger box, a reworked magazine follower so I can close on an empty magazine and a fine vernier rear sight, other than that it is erm.. standard. Even in such a state of 'tune' I doubt it is worth more than GBP375, they are stunningly accurate and hugely under rated rifles, and no, it is not for sale!

Based on a Mauser action, designed in the UK and built in the USA and chambered in .303 (The P17 was 30-06)

Watch out for .22 auto loaders that don't feed properly...you may fall out with it.

An original 303 Enfield...talk to ovenpaa. ;)

There are some really nice ones out there for that money...and some lemons.

Check out the Marlin's some of them are very nice, also Magtech do a some Marlin clones that used to be sub GBP100 brand new.

You flatter me Rob

Regarding the .303's Dromia has a wealth of knowledge as do several other FB'ers. I do try to learn as much as I can about the particular rifles I shoot tho.
