Remington 700 sps tact.
Hi all , just a quick question , im going to purchase a remy 700 sps tact in .223 , im getting a aics stock for it and i wanted some feedback from shooters who have this model or any other remington 700 series on what ammo and grain will sit well in it . I will mainly be shooting foxes and rabbits upto 300 yards and will be doing some range work as well , so my question is ammo type for hunting , and ammo for range work , same distances on both . Many thanks

Will depend on the twist. 1:12 will be more suited to the lighter bullets more suited to rabbit and fox with the .223 - whilst a fast 1:8 or 1:9 is going to push heavier bullets better for target shooting. But out to 300 you would do fine with the 1:12 pushing 55gr bullets (I have a 1:12 .223 and a 1:9)
For foxing I prefer A-max in 50gr with the 1:12 - it is devastatingly accurate. Same round or 55gr for rabbits - again does the job. I also use mine for long range crows, which soon learn the range of the .22lr or .17HMR
For target shooting out to 600 my 1:12 (remi) shoots well with Sierra matchkings in 55gr.
Longer ranges are the domain of the .223 with the 1:9 twist - this likes 69gr Sierra matchkings and I'll be pushing it out to 1000+ this Saturday at Warcop - be interesting to see how it goes - I've shot it at 1000 before and was consistently knocking down the 1000yrd ETR.

Have you thought about THE foxing calibre, .22/250, a blueprinted Remington in a Choate Sniper stock, handbuilt for me by Rfilecraft? Why not have a nosy at my TMR1 FS thread?
Re: Remington 700 sps tact.
Thanks guys , needed that info , i was alittle in two minds with brands and grain , and yes that Sniper stock from rifle craft is very nice , might just have another look , and see if i can sway myself...

556jo - any work done on that rifle as I have 700 in .223, none AICS stock, but all standard and it doesn't give 1 hole groups at 100 yards... 250 yards 1 hole groups sounds impressive, what else have you done? stock trigger?
Re: Remington 700 sps tact.
556jo , very interesting post , will be putting in 3 types of bullets to see what sits well at various ranges , i have seen alot of videos on people shooting the remy 700 using various types of bullets , but none seem to be consistant in keeping their grouping , whether its at 100 yards or 300 yards , i think input from the forum for types of bullets and grains will narrow me down to pick 3 and spend a day zeroing and jotting down group sizes and ballastics data to find the round and grain that will sit right for my ranges and purposes .

Which stock have you fitted , my Tactical came with the houge which are not solid at the bipod stud mount point , and gave not very impressive groups , i nearly sold it but got the aics and totally different results ,TattooedGun wrote:556jo - any work done on that rifle as I have 700 in .223, none AICS stock, but all standard and it doesn't give 1 hole groups at 100 yards... 250 yards 1 hole groups sounds impressive, what else have you done? stock trigger?
