I'll start of by admitting that I like 'black gun' style straight pulls Ahh, so glad I got that off my chest.
Now, I would love an SGC .223 but my wallet is somewhat limited so I was thinking about a stop gap and thought the Mini 14 looked quite interesting. I've seen some nice looking custom stocks for the Mini 14 that give it an 'assault rifle' look but wanted to see what peoples thoughts / experiances about owning one.
Like all rifles it suitability really depends on the use that you want to put it to.
So what type of shooting would you wish to do with it and what are your distance and accuracy expectations?
My experience of them is that they are a fun gun for 200yrd shooting, accuracy was around 2-3" at 100yrds with ball, if you are into handloading and tinkering then it would be a fun gun to try and squeeze better accuracy from.
I seem to recall SimG has one which he reported on here, have you tried a search of the forum?
A search is always a good place to start answering questions, sometimes it can save everyone re-inventing the wheel.

Well, I think mine is great! No, it wll never be a heavy barreled AR, but, when compared to the M4 straight pulls that are knocking about, this little Mini 14 holds it's own very well.
I still haven't finished tinkering with it. I reckon the next thing will be to shorten the barrel by three inches. That will take me to just in front of the mo-rod and will stiffen the barrel up just a little more. Loads wise, even though it's a 1 in 9" twist, 52/53gn bullets, particularly Hornady are most suited, with Benchmark powder.
There some Mini 14's around and some still new. I wouldn't buy new. 600 quid for the gun and a couple or thre hundred quid adding bits, you're into S/H SGC AR's territory......
But, find a cheapy, grab it! They are cracking fun!
