Well oomans, we've been talking to the very knowledgabubble Mik Maksimovic at Dolphin and he's suggested that for our needs we might do best with a single calibre rifle. He's suggested 6.5x47 Lapua. Any of you care to comment on how this round stacks up - particularly against our own preferred calibre, 6.5x55 Swedish? We don't know much about the 6.5x47 apart from it's well made (it's lapua) and it's expensive (it's lapua).

To refresh your memories, we're looking for something to use often at 300 yards, sometimes at 600 yards and once in a blue moon at 1000 yards.

Very accurate, very fast flyer. Can't go wrong. My wild cat is based on that calibre.

We were thinking of using 6.5x55 Swedish if we go down the single calibre route as then the ammo will also be compatible with our mausers and Krag Jorgensens. Does the x47 have a massive advantage over the old Swedish round - enough to justify a new calibre and the higher cost?

I don't understand those who have gained the skills and kit to reload .308 then stick to that calibre when the 7mm-08 does the same just better.

6,5x47 is a very good cartridge and can be used to great effect. Darrel Evans has been shooting an Accuracy International chambered in 6,5x47 for a while and has had some very impressive results with JLK bullets, the x47, he is on the forum so hopefully he will pick this up.

In your position I would opt for 6.5x47 an excellent all rounder with no problem feeding from a mag and long enough legs to shoot out to 1000 yds. Had one for a couple of years mik mak is currently rebarreling the rifle as i have shot it out in that time as it's my go to rifle as it covers all bases.

The same one you used for McQueen? If so that was another scary accurate rifle.

Probably, but to be honest I can't remember was the rifle I used green and in an AICS stock or a black TRG?
