Oh! s**t, Stuck case!!

#1 Post by johngarnett »

I have got the remains of a case stuck in my .308 Quadlock chamber. It was case head separation. I don't think I could have seen it coming but it's happened. No excuses :o

Has anyone any ideas on removal please? I've tried a 308 stuck case removal tool and using a .45 cal bronze brush to pull back out but to no avail.

Thanks for any guidance.

PS Anyone want a lot of HPS cases? ;) Going to invest in new, they don't owe me anything!!

Ooo er! I've never had this problem before...... What about coming at it from the muzzle end with a very tight jag and patch....?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Try a different stuck case remover or tighten up the one you are using, it should pick up the lip OK unless you were running them very long.

HPS brass yes depending on how many times they have been shot

Crush up some ice, put it into a polythene bag and insert into the chamber. The ice will make the brass shrink and you should be able to remove it via the usual methods. Give it a try as a mate of mine had a full case stuck and I told him to put ice onto the headstamp and after a minute he removed it with the bolt.

I've seen a stud extractor welded to a steel rod with a slide hammer used for this. One of the Fungunners has a set to fit all his calibres.

I'm not suggesting for one moment that he habitually stokes up his loads, however........................ :shakeshout:

Correction: not a stud extractor but a thread cutting tap.................
