I have recently aquired a rifle by the above Danish maker.

I am struggling to find any information though.

Does any one know anything about P. Poulsen?

Thanks

Andy

Hmmm... I know Danish rifles quite well and I am not aware of the maker and I just checked a Danish shooting forum on and got no hits.

What sort of rifle is it and do you have any pictures?

Christel may know the maker.

Got it, they are/were Danish built hunting rifles that look to be based on the Mauser action. Does yours say Copenhagen or Kobenhavn on the receiver?

EDIT - Two triggers maybe? Poulsen rifles go back to the 1900's so probably fitted with a Schultz and Larsen barrel unless it is a very early rifle. S&L were the number one Danish barrel maker and were based at Otterup.

Has it got early German glass on it or open sights and what is it chambered in?

It's a break barrel with a forward facing under lever. Kobenhavn

Single trigger

Open sights, it's chambered in a slightly shorter (approx 2mm) case than a .45-70 Government. The rifle is capable of, and has recently been fired. The cases are stamped .45-70

I haven't given it a thorough examination as yet, however, after a quick look, I cannot see anything more than the makers name on the barrel.

I will get the magnifying glass out!

It sounds very nice indeed and unusual to find in the UK, they are scarce enough in DK.

Kobenhavn, so it could have been built around 1900 or just before. That is a bit of a guess.

I found a couple for sale chambered in 8x57JS, both are hunting type rifles with set second trigger and one has an original Voightländer 'scope on it as well. I must admit I had not heard of them before but being a fan of all things Danish I can see we need one of these. Down side is I do not like the two trigger setup even though they were highly regarded.

You have got to post a picture up :good:

I like that. I imagine it would be fun to shoot as well.

Apparently P Poulsen imported and sold very high quality firearms badged as Poulsen including from Westley Richards.

I reckon you were lucky there, very nice indeed.

I assume you have not shot it yet, let us know how you get on?
I'd imagine it will kick a bit O:-)
