Looking for a F-Class rifle

Hello all

I get my FAC in a couple of weeks hopefully. :good: I have been shooting at Bisley for nearly a year now and we shoot from 1000yds to 300yds. I have a pure target rifle lined up which is a Musgrave in 7.62.
I have also asked to have a F-Class rifle in 7.62 as well. I have been looking at the Remingtons as i can't afford the likes of RPA and AI. I've been looking around and they seem to get good write up's so would they be a good start as a F-Class?
I was looking at the Remy 700 XCR Tactical Long and the 700 Target Tactical. What's your views please as I'm totally new to all this, good and bad? sign85

Martin, REM700 is a great starting platform however there isn't much point buying the models you list as you'll junk a lot of it if you want a serious F Class rifle. I'd go for a PSS or similar. That will get you shooting allowing you to buy reloading kit, scope etc.

Then you can look at stocks, trigger and ultimately a longer barrel.

20series has a great set of pictures of the evolution of his REM700. I have a VSSF.

Have a look here, as Mike kindly says mine evolved over a couple of years

Ok. What's the PSS as I can't see it on there site or have they renamed it? Are you happy with the VSSF and do you use it for target shooting? They look a nice bit of kit for sure, sounds like I'm looking in the right direction!

Nice rifle indeed Alan. You've had no problems with it?

You will find it on the law enforcement site http://www.remingtonle.com iirc.

Can also consider the varmint but likely a false economy as the stock is junk and will need to go.

I should have taken this route in too, but was advised that you can't make a Rem 700 a decent shooter; this from a respected gunsmith - hey ho!

There are some very accurate Rem700's in circulation and I still maintain that one of the most accurate .308's I ever shot was an Armalon built Rem700 that could give 12" groups at 1000 yards with a barrel that was under 20" long.

EDIT - that was off a Harris clone bipod and very average 'scope as well.

Why not just put a scope rail on the top of the musgrave, I pinched one for£80.00 off gun trader then had a rail fitted, so for an all up cost of £200 I had a starter f/tr rig or as I wanted, an action to base a new dasher build on.

Just an idea

My old SPS tactical in 223 was brilliant. I miss that rifle and am considering another!

Thanks for the link Mr Logic

They are pretty accurate then at a 1000yds. Thats one hell of a grouping!!

Steve the Musgrave has a scope fitted but I want to really get into ironsight shooting. It's how I started and still are learning about at the mo. I shoot with my dad and he gets on better with a scope as his eyesight isn't that great. So this is why we need both so we can shoot at the same time.
