Below is a list of places in France & Belgium visited by my Grandfather in the Royal Engineers.,154th Field Company of 37th Division during 1915-19. Some have xxx after them, this means I have not managed to track the places down yet, I have included the full list as they follow in sequence. Some places have a name in brackets afterwards which I believe to be the correct spelling.

If anyone can identify any of the locations geographically it will help no end.

Attached detail of the 37th Div memorial in Monchy which I visited for the first time in July.

I've got CD's of the trench maps for the Arras and Somme sectors if get that far.

Yes, I know the forum and did find out a bit via it but research fizzled out, I need to get down to the RE and do some research when I get a free minute.

Good idea, I used Autoroute and tried to join them together a while ago, I will give Google Earth a try

I had a look at a couple I think pas must mean pass as several appear in a mountain region SE France near Switzerland .

I picked a name at random, "Waplincourt" and put it in Google maps. It came up with the suggestion that I meant Haplincourt.

Could it be a miss transcription?

The list is based on the hand written notes of my Grandfather so given his spelling and the soldiers interpretation of the names it could well be right Bobbob.

Now I know my Mother reads this forum, well as best she can as she is a guest so no access to GoM and the likes, maybe she will remember something else based on any comments in this thread.
