I'm sure some of you will have seen this new rifle announced at SHOT Show over in the States and I have to say it looks quite promising. At 6.5lbs and only 25 inches long with the stock folded it seems like it would be a lovely and handy thing for carrying around for a bit of stalking while also being good fun at the range. From what I've read it'll not be available until this summer in the U.S, but I wonder if/when we might see them available over here? What do you folks think if it?

That .277 will be like Betamax by this time next year.

I had a look at the Cross at Shot Show, it's short, light and compact, but it's also fairly expensive for a hunting rifle.
SiG said that there's a longer barrel, 24" version coming for the 6.5mm CM.
I bet it will be over £2K by the time it gets here.

I'm inclined to agree with you about the .277, I don't see it lasting. Besides that, there are no free lunches, if you're getting 140gr at 3000fps from a 16" barrel you surely must be cooking the barrels pretty quickly?

I think I'd go with one in .308 , even from a 16" barrel it'll still knock over anything I'd be shooting at in this country.

They're saying they'll be $1600 in the states, so I'd be expecting it to be in the £1600-£2000 range over here. As you said a bit expensive for a hunting rifle, but personally I'd be willing to pay the extra for something that's a bit different from the standard fare and that I can also have a bit of fun with at the range.

Considering it's a machine gun round for the US army they must have factored in barrel life, or it's just another hidden cost for the Pentagon gravy train.

Fair point, but you also have to consider the fact that the acceptable level of accuracy for a machine gun is quite a bit different to what's considered acceptable for a precision rifle. But as you say, if it comes down to it then pentagon can afford to replace barrels regularly

According to the gunsamerica article, any manufacturer will be free to make the ammunition (or other guns to use it) royalty free, and the barrel life is "better than the speculation in the forums and better than you’re imagining. Way better than you’re imagining."

Looks neat - look forward to handling it at IWA next month.
