As one of the leading venues in the country, we have contact with a huge number of exhibition organisers who are keen to potentially bring a variety of events to Liverpool.

As an ethical and responsible company, we consistently review the content of all events while continuing our commitment to generate business and economic impact for the city.

With this in mind, and following an intervention from the elected Mayor, Joe Anderson, the Board has carefully considered concerns raised regarding the Great British Shooting Show and have taken the decision not to proceed with the event.

Although it was never the case that the abhorrent practice of ‘trophy hunting’ would be promoted, we have taken on board feedback about the theme of the event, and terminated our negotiations with the Great British Shooting Show.

Anyone know where this petition to ban the show in liverpool is ?

Well, as a subscriber to the campaign, I'm definitely an anti as far as trophy hunting is concerned, as are my shooting mates................anybody else on here?

And I don't see why they couldn't just remove the trophy hunting exhibitors, and let the rest proceed.

So much for our tolerant society.

With a bit of a tweak there's no reason why trophy sports and conservation types can't come together in mutual agreement.
I rather like the idea of hunting poachers for sport. The bloodthirsty get their fill and we get more lions, elephants, and rhino in the world. Also a human head is probably a lot cheaper to mount on a wall.

I wouldn't mind betting that the majority of civilised people are behind the "antis" as far as trophy hunting is concerned..........

I don't hunt never have and unlikely ever to do so, no doubt a huge majority are against trophy hunting, but most will make that decision on the back of very little knowledge. Search trophy hunting and conservation, undoubtedly lots of argument to be had as to ethics/ownership etc, but without the trophy hunting businesses there would be very little if anything in the way of wildlife as it'd have no protection.

Guess I am not civilised then

Trophy hunting serves a purpose. It is actually a term that is wrong. Much more in keeping with conservation.

On the face of whats presented by the media, whether newspapers/reports, in films or carefully selected videos by extremist animal 'protection' groups, there is little to like about trophy hunting, but when you actually get off your cheeks and do a bit of research you can see its a very complicated subject, and a neutral, if not beneficial part of conservation. The linked article gives a good balanced summary

I'm not trying to suggest that people who actually engage in trophy hunting are the slightest bit interested in the conservation aspect, although that might be my own media-tainted perception, however, the results of what they do speak for themselves.
