NRA UK just posted this:
https://nra.org.uk/offensive-weapons-ac ... hibitions/
A lot of people on facebook seem very angry about it.... As a newbie reading this, it seems to be relating to banning semi-auto weapons other than .22 rimfire.
Forgive my ignorance but I thought this was already the case. Would someone mind explaining for me what has changed and which is means for us??

The old laws banned semi-automatic (self loading) firearms these new laws ban self-extracting firearms - MARS or lever release actions . No change to the law for .22lr chambered firearms

I’ve not been keeping totally up to date on the discussion but the NRA link seems to says it’s actions using propellant gas. Are there any firearms on the market that use recoil (or blowback I guess) instead of gas?

Well you could argue that even the blowback action uses gas to cycle or move the bolt to the rear.

Well, that's what it is, gas expanding in all directions - bullet goes one way, cartridge goes t'other.

Ah ok now it makes sense.... so it seems MARS action were a way around the semi auto laws and made something almost as quick in larger calibre. This law is outlawing those weapons. Makes sense now. Thanks!!

Whatever you do, don't say on here that you agree with the act, that would make you immediately controversial on a shooting forum.

no, they were a design of firearm that met with the current laws. the speed of their operation is not great and they are not designed to be fast.
they are not weapons, they are firearms.
glad that a lot of us loosing our lawfully held property makes sense to you
