Selling a firearm while FAC/SGC is in for renewal

I recently put in for renewal of my FAC & SGC, in hindsight I should have sent photocopies in and kept my certificates but no, I sent the originals in with the renewal paperwork.

My question is can I sell a shotgun to another SGC holder without my SGC present? I can notify the police as usual by email, but would they raise an eyebrow to me doing so while they have my certificates?

I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks

I sold a rifle while on a temporary certificate while waiting for my renewal so I don't see why not. Informed them via email and sent in a transfer form, which I kept a copy of.

As long as you have all your SGC details so you can complete the buyers SGC and inform your FLD.

nothing is written in yours when you sell, so don't see why it should be an issue

Is this right? When I swapped shotguns with Mrs Hrun we recorded the sale/purchase on both certificates. Surely not writing the sale on your certificate indicates on viewing you still hold the gun and raises questions?

Your SGC isn't a list of guns you own, it's authority to possess a particular gun in your possession. The paperwork you send to the police maintains their record of guns you own which is the one that matters.

If I was buying a shotgun I'd want to see the sellers ticket to see that they had authority to have that gun and that it wasn't stolen etc.

It's correct, the only time you ever write on your own SGC or FAC is when you add your signature.

Sales or transfers etc. should be written on the recipients certificate, you then have to send a notification to your FLD within 7 days.

Or to add anything you've imported or acquired, etc.

I spoke to Met Fet about this, as I had this issue a year or so back , whilst mine was in for a variation
I was told quite adamantly by them ( spoke to 2 different people ) that in no way should I do this, as I could not prove to the other person that I had legal authority & I had no original paperwork to show.
