I did have one but I have to admit it hit me too hard in the shoulder for it to be a pleasure to shoot. I did wear a sorbothane pad when out shooting, it did help a lot.
Maybe it is more a man's rifle? Girls, do not hate me for saying that!

Reloading for this is one of the big plus points. Cheap ammunition. Buying the rifle itself is also attainable, of course it depends on what model you are getting.

It was surprisingly accurate as well, 1.5" groups at 100 yards from a rested position with light ball were attainable with some effort, the MN is probably one of the best rifles for 75-200 knock downs and milsurp 54R is not far off bargain basement prices.

That must make life harder - can you get hold of 54R milsurp at a reasonable price? In the UK it is around GBP27/100 for light and heavy ball these days, so it has nearly doubled in the last four years however it is still a lot cheaper than other stuff.

I have not got a NG in my collection because they are horrible little rifles, mass produced as cheaply as possible.
There, said it, cat among the pigeons...

The NG was one of the first rifles I shot, and was promptly "scoped" by it - as are many shooters both experienced and novice.
I found the recoil uncomfortable and generally did not like the look of it. Although I don't collect rifles from the era, I can see that the Enfields and Mauser's do look good and there is some beautiful examples out there, not forgetting the Schmidt Rubin's.

I see that CG are selling them for as little as £130 each - there is a reason for that in my eyes!

They can be rather clunky however that is all part of the appeal maybe? Trigger pull is robust to say the least but the pull can be safely eased off a bit by polishing and thinning the trigger spring and cutting a couple of coils out of the bolt spring helps a bit as well. I would however be the first to admit they are a bit lively to shoot but they are also probably the cheapest of the Pre45 military rifles available on the market, I have seen carbines for under GBP100 earlier this year, at that price every home should have one.

I suppose if shooting it at the range fails to impress you, you can always use it as a zombie gun, cheap ammo and good as a club.

ACTUALLY i had a crisis of faith on Sunday while on RCO duty - i had a 'twinge' over an Enfield SMLE! Its the first tree-guts gun to appeal to me in a very long time! Maybe i'm getting soft in my old age, or maybe it was the sun . . . . :lol:
