I'm after information on the 6.5x47. What bullet weights are favorite. What powder do you use and whats a ball park figure for powder charge weight for your choice of bullet.

RS60 with 136grain Lapua "L"'s, KVB-223 Magnum primers, in a 30" barrel 1:8 twist, at an MV of 2940fps does it for me...................I started at 39grains and worked up in 1/2 grains.
This'll go to 1200yds. (See my post from yesterday)
Usual caveats apply.

Thanks what cartridge over all length do you load to.

69.1mm.....(= 0.5mm jump in my rifle.)
Quickload gives a pmax of 55894psi and MV of 2832 with my final load, but it actually chrony'd at 2940fps (Magnetospeed and Techradar simultaneously, within 10fps of each other). I've pushed these to 3050, but the group opened up noticeably, and at 2940, they're still doing 1451fps at 1000yds, (Litz), so no point in toasting a barrel.
My 308 MAY be going.................
I also tried 130 grain Norma's and 123 grain Scenars, but IMHO, the 136's are streets ahead.

Is that a big amount? Difficult to assess when it is foreign measurements that some people cannot use.

There's quite a lot of load data on Reload Swiss website (both published load data and customer load data). The 123gr and 139gr Lapua Scenar's and the Berger 130gr bullets are the most popular for this calibre. I have used Ramshot Big Game, Reload Swiss RS50 and RS60 with this calibre. Despite the Big Game powder metering very well (fine-ish ball powder) it gave very sporadic velocities. The extruded stick powders RS50 and RS60 gave much more consistent muzzle velocities (over n=10 shots RS60 gave an Extreme Spread of 14fps). There's no point really discussing grouping because 90% of my load data was easily within 3/4 MOA at 100m.

My overall length was 2.660" with a 123gr Scenar which is quite short. My barrel was chambered specifically for this bullet as that OAL gives me around 0.003" jump to the lands. My RS60 load data for this 123gr bullet is on the customer load data on Reload Swiss' website, and out of my barrel (28") I achieve a muzzle velocity of approximately 2,950fps when chrono'd using a MagnetoSpeed sporter. This load uses CCI 450 small rifle magnum primers as I was having an issue with pierced primers, even at very low loadings (this is a known issue with bolts which have a chamfered firing pin hole. You can get these bushed to resolve the problem or you can use the magnum rifle primers with a thicker/stronger cup).

I addition to Pete's post, I've already sold my .308win.

I've settled on Norma 130gr bullets at 70mm COAL with RS60 and CCI BR4 primers working up from high 30gr. My working load gives around 2900fps.

For the benefit of anyone unable to read or consult a conversion table, or operate a simple calculator, 0.5mm is 20 thousandths of one inch, whatever an inch is ( a type of worm?).............. teanews
