Hi all, after some cabinet advice.

Finally switched from renting to buying a house 6 months ago, so now its cabinet time. Currently have a large number of shotguns and rifles stored in two cabinets (shared) at my parents, Dad is giving up shooting so I need to sort a cabinet out here. My preferred location is a cupboard that backs on to chimney / fireplace, so its all brick, the fire is not used. I will be disposing of quiet a bit of stuff, mainly shotguns, but will probably be getting a a few more rifles and hopefully a LBR and a muzzle loading pistol.

I would just about be able to squeeze a 60cm wide cabinet through the cupboard door (with a bit of carpentry), 58cm would be better, depth is a maximum of 46cm. Wondered if anybody can recommend a cabinet that's around this size. The Brattonsound Titan 10 looks like an option or the Buffalo River 18 Gold. The Buffalo looks like the ideal solution because its claimed higher capacity, just unsure of the build quality and the exact size. I would probably get an extra ammo / parts cabinet and have that bolted down in another room, so ammo storage in the cabinet not that important. Price wise looking at around £500. Should also add its going on a concreate floor, so once I get it in place weight is not an issue.

Why bot keep using the existing cabinets as per the current arrangement?
(if your father is ok with the cabinets remaining in place after he's packed in....plus you'd need to be sole key holder)

Mainly a convenience thing, I currently have to drive in the opposite direction before heading to Bisley, or one of the local ranges. Also the attached garage at my new place is going to become a workshop, so I will have better facilities to work on my own firearms, and hopefully have a go at reloading.
The rifle cabinet at my parents is already in my name, and I have sole ownership of the keys.

i take it the existing cabinets at your parents' can't be relocated to your gaff?

is it just the door size that is limiting you to 60, or do you have more space inside the door?

In my old flat I had my safes inside a cupboard, but I put two 40cm cabinets in, doorway was 60cm, so had around 10cm each side of the doorframe. once the cabinets were in and bolted together they will not fit through the door, and unless both were loose you don't have enough room to wiggle them out. just a thought for you.
also, two smaller cabinets offer more security than one large one, as it takes twice the amount of time to get them both open....

The big one is too big, the small one is too small. Visited the gunshop in West Malling today, they have the Lokaways in stock. The larger one would fit with a bit of a squeeze. The .22LR UZI they had in stock made me chuckle, the .357 magnum LRB looked interesting.

Other option is to have two smaller cabinets in different places in the house, I could then separate parts of the guns between cabinets. I assume I can also store ammunition if separate from the gun it goes with. I would use the smaller cabinet from my parents so would save a few quid.

ammo doesn't have to be separate if it is stored in a locked partition of the cabinet, so like brattonsound lock tops. it is good practice to separate though, I do.
