While not an RFD, myself, none of the ones I have used had a problem with my FAC being worded in that manner. I've had authorities for .22 centrefire, .25 cal, 6.5mm, .30 cal, 9mm and .45 cal rifles.
IMO, if your FAC says 6.5mm rifle then that is what the Police have authorised you to acquire - i.e. any 6.5mm rifle. However, your best bet is to ask your local RFD and Firearms licensing as the HO guidance says it shouldn't be done this way, yet Form 201V still asks for the calibre (
not cartridge) of the firearm to be acquired.
Personally, I go by the wording of the form/s unless I'm looking for something specific.

I suppose a lot depends on what ammunition allowance you have as well. I had a slot for a 7.62 rifle plus 7.62 ammunition - several dealers I spoke to wouldn't sell me .308 ammunition.

If it says 6,5mm then that is what you can have.
As an example I have an open slot for a centre fire rifle up to 13,8mm right now so I can legally acquire any Section 1 rifle up to 13,8mm

I have bought a 6.5 Swede and 6.5 jap with the same wording, the only problem I ever had was trying to by ammo for my AK which is 7.62x39 and FAC just said 7.62, with some it's ok and others it's not so I had the rifle and ammo changed to 7.62x39 then there's no argument.

I like that wording.
As has been noted before though, you have a good relationship with your FEO.

Ah, that was a mistake, it should have read 14,7mm centre fire rifle and ammunition.

Again. You're only making it worse...
Including ammunition, of how many rounds?

1200 from memory, that is what I am normally allocated with centre fire unless I ask for more.
