Seen on TV. Guns and drugs? Instant FAC / SGC revocation?

#1 Post by walesdave »

Just watching one of the reality police shows on the box.

Police (think it was Dyfed-Powys) pull over a car in the middle of the night, 5 young men in it - didn't see why they pulled it but couldn't have been serious, no tickets given etc.

Turns out 3 of the 5 have some weed on them, not selling just their own use 'alternative tobacco'.

Search of the car turns up at least 2 Sec2 shotguns and a bunch of what look like pre-charged air rifles.

Driver of the car has all the correct paperwork (looks like a SGC from the blurred out TV picture).

Driver / SGC holder does not have any weed and is taking his mates for a nights shooting.

Police confiscate the weed & give cannabis warnings (nick one lad as he's too young for a warning  ) and then let everyone go on their way, with all the shotguns and rifles.

Question: I'm I being out of order thinking the police should have seized the guns and his SGC? Surely taking people who are planning on getting high for a nights shooting is grounds for revoking a SGC? Don't bother saying he might not of known his mates had weed - 5 lads in a car going for a long drive (they were heading to darkest Wales), 3 of them carrying weed - he knew!

my mate smokes weed, should I lose my license if I give him a lift? what if I take him on a guest day, he's not high, but he has some for later in the day, should I lose it then?

I think the bigger problem with these programs is they show the police just pull people over with no reason, saw one the other day, they just said something like sec137 of the road traffic act, whe asked why he had pulled a guy over. thurns out that act when i looked up the one he said, just says you must stop for a uniformed officer. So there was no mention as to the reason for pulling him. You then add in the highly tuned coppers nose that can smell weed at a thousand yards.... walking up to the car, ooo I can smell weed, oooo that means I can search you and your car if I want, yet without the aid of the smell, no lawfull reason to search.

It's television - I think much of those reality cop shows are staged.
Or maybe the police are taking a more relaxed view:

So punish the SGC holder for his ones mates Crimes ?? I don't think so ! Also I don't think there is an offence of letting people smoke weed etc while in your car !

Would this cover it?

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies....maybe I am just getting old and grumpy ****

I don't have any issues either way about people smoking what they want to smoke (I spent the 90's in country with 'relaxed' cannabis laws and was wasted for most of the time wtf ) but was more wondering about the safety side of things when 3 out of the 4 people you take shooting at night are planning on getting stoned - and if these kids were anything like I was, they definately wouldn't wait for later if they had a bag of grass and a packet of Rizlas clapclap

....and as Rockhopper says, the associates you keep and take shooting with you, must have some bearing on suitabilty to hold a SGC or FAC??

In a car it's a possible bad judgement call.
A car with guns in it on rhw way to a shoot, where some of the drug users will be using the guns?? VERY questionable.

Good job it WAS a car = otherwise it would have been a criminal offence & the SGC/FAC holder would be holding a knock down sale.

I thought cannabis was illegal?
Known associates rules could be applied re. certificate holder suitability.

correct, very bad judgement call, guns and drugs very bad !
as for associates in the home office guidance, i think it is more about associating in organsised or serious crime rather then a few kids smoking abit pot !

what if cannabis were to be made legal ? that would be interesting can of worms

Like that shotgun champ who got his certificate pulled after posting a video of him doing that nek nomination with a bottle of vodka in one hand and a shotgun in the other. It wasn't loaded, but he was still in charge of a firearm whilst necking a bottle of vodka.
