new marlins

I'll wait and see how their 'new' under levers do over the next few years before putting my hand in my pocket as they're not cheap rifles to regret buying.

I'm looking at buying an under lever in .45 long Colt.
Marlin want around £1,400
Rossi just under £500
You can't really mind paying £500 for a pretty decent shooter that might even turn out to be an excellent shooter.
£1,400 though and it would be a bitter pill to swallow if it didn't live up to expectations.

Hanging on to my existing JM .44 that's for sure.

Or get a nice Henry at about £950, I have 2 in 44mag, very nice, the new Blue Steel version is a lovely thing to shoot :)

I'll second that

4 of the guys in my club have Marlins, 2 of them in .357 and two have .44 Mag. The club underlever is a Marlin .357, and I've shot all 3 of the .357 guns. They are all 'old' spec Marlins as well, and I find them horrible to use.

My mate of many years has a Henry in .357, and that is very nice to shoot, with a nice action, but, it is heavy, and I'm afraid I just don't like the load in tube of the Henry. His wife has a new stainless steel Rossi in .357, and that's nicer to use than the Marlins or the Henry...IMHO. I've also shot a SS carbine Rossi in .45LC in the USA, and that was very nice....and I can imagine that are very slick once 'raced up' with a few of the go-faster bits available in the USA.

I'd certainly pick a Rossi over a Henry or a Marlin, however, I've just recently taken delivery of this Uberti 1873 Competition in .45LC that I ordered back in Feb....which is bloody lovely, and worth the wait, as it tops the Rossi, Henry & Marlin by a long way. The only issue with Uberti is getting hold of one compared to the easy availability of the others - but so glad I stuck out for it, well worth the wait.
Good value too at £995.

mine looks very similar to that, except I have a pistol grip stock, and chequered woodwork in 44SPL, Love it, just need to get faster with it. short stroked too

Yeah, the short stroke kit makes a big difference, that's why I ordered the Competition version, as it comes from the factory with a short stroke kit, action job, brass bead front sight and the carbine/shotgun style stock, and all for only about 50 notes more than a standard version.

I well chuffed with it, just need to put the levergun training session I had in Texas earlier this year into practice now
