Can anyone recognise this model of Heidenhain DRO and even better tell me how it works please, It is fitted to a 9x42 Textron built Bridgeport Milling machine.
I am used to DRO's however nothing this old so any tips or information would be gratefully received. All I can say is it is not a VRZ 710C :)

That looks to be the VRZ 713B 2 axis model.
You ought to be able to find the appropriate manual here:

Probably a 713 then, thank you for that. I was beginning to think it was a 613 however that last link is exactly the same as mine other than not having the mm/in selector switch which may well have been unique to the Bridgeport's.
I am interested in the Memofix function however it seems to be quite limited.

It's the same model on our Bridgeport. They have the operating manual for it. I could photo copy it if you want. I have pm you the contact number for Allan Patterson he uses it and is willing to answer any questions you may have if that's any help. He is at work and can be contacted on a Monday Tuesday or Wednesday between 09.00 and 16.30. He only works three days a week. Alan is a Fine Mechanics Designer in other words he designs and makes/machines weird and Wonderfull things.

The model has been confirmed as a VRZ 731B by Heidenhain UK who have also provided a manual. Apparently this was original fitment on some of the Bridgeport BR2J2 Milling machines. Now I just need to do an on the fly translation of the Heidenhain English to the English I understand :)
