Got to play with one of these a couple of days ago. Now I'm sad.

I briefly owned a mint example until a certain Mr Ryan went walkabout in Hungerford.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a private range a couple of days ago. Couldn't believe how accurate the Garand was. The rifle that's in the video was mint. The bloke who invited me there also let me shoot hundreds of rounds through his Finn capture SVT, SKS, M28/30 as well as numerous revolvers in .357 magnum and .45acp.
SVT was so so accuracy wise, SKS I could happily shoot all day long. I'll post some more videos later (still on holiday!).

A club mate used to have one, which everyone loved to shoot standing at Short Siberia fun shoots - Sorry to be a child, but I just loved the sound when the clip pings out tongueout

Shame we can't have them now :bad:

A straight pull Garand would do me if one ever becomes available.

And my younger daughter shooting the same rifle.

Until the mid 80s M1 rifles were fairly rare in civilian hands here in the U.S.A. The military was still using them until the early 70s. The only way back then to obtain one was either through the Director of Civilian Marksmanship that would sell you one rifle in your lifetime after qualifying for it, buying one of the few M1 rifles imported from the UK when they were sold off in the 50s by the MoD, or buying a reconstructed M1 made from condemned parts and an 03A3 barrel grafted onto an M1 barrel stub! Amazingly many of the reconstructed rifles are still in use by their unsuspecting owners.

M1 rifles are fun to shoot. Lots going on with it every time you pull the trigger. The only downside for a left handed shooter like me is that I frequently get hit on the head by the ejected clip.
