Does anyone own a rifle chambered in this cartridge for shooting long-range targets?
Any opinions on its performance (and barrel life) compared to .308W?

I've got one, extremely accurate and not a barrel burner.

The .260 is an increasingly popular long range catridge and it blows the .308 aside beyond 800-yrds both in wind and elevation. It can comfortably shoot out to 1200 yrds and remain ballistic and you should be able to do that at sea level. With some altitude you can get out to 1500-yrds.
I myself wanted to go 6.5 Creedmoor which is almost identical to the .260 but the 6.5 has fewer options for reloading in terms of brass and nobody seems to shoot it over here. The .260 reloads very well and H4350 is the only powder really being used. It is also not too fussy about bullet seating depth vs the lands and most Amax and Berger bullets work well.
Have a read of Zak Smiths piece

Not target orientated but a mate uses one for culling. Every bit as consistent with as much long range punch as my 308.

My stalking buddy has a custom 260 rem, he uses the 140gr amax and varget, amazingly accurate. Would be a bit flatter shooting than the 308 also Bc is very high on the heavy for caliber bullets. Have one on my wish list!

I've read many reviews and articles about the .260 Remington cartridge and it's all positive.
I made an enquiry about a SAKO 85 Varmint (600mm barrel with a 1:8" twist). I've been told special order only and at least a 6-month lead-time! 6-months! Oh, come on!
That's simply ridiculous!
