Target Rifle Bedding

Anyone got any views on when to renew the bedding on ones TR? Is this something that should be done every few years as a matter of course or only when a problem occurs? Reason I ask is that the bedding in my rifle has never been replaced (built in 1996) but the rifle is still shooting well (last year being my best yet for trophies!). Is it a case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'

In general I would extend that slightly to include pre-emptive action, i.e.
"if it ain't broke and it ain't gonna break" don't fix it. Apart from that I wouldn't mess with bedding that is performing well. One of my rifles was bedded by George Arnold!

Keep it clean, free from fluids / grease & only play with it if it starts to break up.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!!!
If the rifle is shooting well with bedding it has leave well alone, a re-bed might not be able to give you the accuracy that you have already.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!!!

Generally, I'd go with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it principle" but there are a couple of preventative/pre-emptive things you can do...
1) Keep your bedding free of oils, greases & cleaning fluids
2) If your trigger guard bends or squeaks as you tighen the bedding screws you might need new trigger guard bedding
3) Keep an eye out for cracks or disintegration
My original rifle was re-bedded in about 2002ish and shot great until I sold it last year.
Cheers,
Gaz

Thanks all, had a hunch that the responses would be 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' but I do hear so often folks having their rifles rebedded and I haven't ever had too. I guess John Knight did a corking job when building the rifle.
Hi Gaz, hope you are well, regards to Phil. Shame we haven't been able to pull a team together for the KGV!
