The rough shoot club/syndicate that I shoot with (pheasants) has two shoots left this season,,,,tomorrow (saturday) and next saturday, BOTH OF WHICH I CAN MAKE..but I have missed a few because of work..

I have in the last couple of days enquired and looked into joining a couple of local clubs smallbore and fullbore target shooting,,,and I have been asked/invited along to a Range day not far from where I live to have a shoot tomorrow with my .223,,,I know the range and have shot on it many times its an MOD 600mtr gallery Range, nice little range,,,membership is £50.00 pa and the range fee is £12.00 how does that compare??? and what is the protocol I have never shot with a civvy club on a rifle range??

Things is which one do I go too tomorrow???

I cant make up my mind??? HELP!! :| :|

Our previous club membership fee was £90 per year and £10 range fee.

Current club is £30 per year and £12 range fee.

Will you not be able to go later at some point to this club?

50 quid a year and 12 green fees, doesn't sound so bad. I'm fortunate in my club, it's 85 a year and no green fees! It's been like that for 15 years!!!

Civvy clubs, just like the mob really. Orders/instructions very much the same, just don't fix bayonets and charge once your mag is empty!

Range tomorrow, rough next week. See? Sorted!

Range fee?...WTF ... club must be rolling in it.

The civilan clubs I have shot in over the more recent years have mostly been very well run with safety above everything else, one of my clubs shot alongside the Army year before last and the CO came over and commended our shooters on the way they conducted themselves which was nice of him.

Things are slightly different in some respects but as long as you listen to the RCO and ask if in doubt it will be fine. Walking onto the firing point and un-bagging your rifle or clearing your own rifle and walking off the point without RCO approval are guaranteed to get you a verbal kicking.

I expect you will need to spend some time in the Butts if it is like our clubs but this gives you a chance to meet the other shooters.

I would be inclined to shoot the full-bore this weekend to see how you get on :)

Heh! I guess you don not shoot on MoD ranges very often, they charge an absolute fortune to hire a range for one day and they also need to provide a range manager so if you are on a long range day with under a dozen member the club will be loosing a fair amount of money on the shoot. Hopefully it is made up by the better attended short distance days.

Small Bore Club £100 PA No Range Fees, Has own Range and Clubhouse

Full Bore/Gallery/Small Bore/Blk Pwdr Club, £120 PA No Range fees. Hires indoor Range and Blk Pwdr Range once a week and two F/B shoots a month.

Clays...£10 PA It is subsidised by IBM.

I tend to agree with you...the other point I have just thought of is what type of ammo they use and what is acceptable to them,,,now because I use my .223 for vermin fox etc, obviously most of my ammo that I have at the moment is hollow point/expanding,,,I do have a few FMJ in the safe but not many and I doubt I will have time now to get any more,, do these clubs usually have ammo available on the day or what sorry to ask but as a non target shooter this is all new to me.

Some clubs are iffy about expanding ammo and others just ignore it, I have a feeling it is not allowed on MoD ranges but I could be very wrong and yes some clubs will sell it on the day.
