I know a lot of people have removed the SGC barrel nut and replaced it with a std one, allows all sorts of AR forends to b fitted.
I am toying with he idea myself in order to fit a lighter weight forend.

I'll have to get a barrel nut now, are they all the same fitting/thread or (knowing my luck) is the SGC something weird again? Brownells and Midway US have them from $8 and I could get one shipped to my friend in Florida and get him to post it over for me.

My SGC - albeit a lowly .22 - has a standard thread to the upper.
I bought it 2nd-hand in M4 configuration - but have chucked the A-post unit & swapped the M4 handguards for a neater free-float type.
Gave the old M4 handguards to my mates son - but made a desk lamp out of them first!! He was quite pleased

The receiver thread is mercifully standard so once you get a standard barrel nut on there you can chop and change hand guards to your hearts content!

DM and I swapped over his front end and he had a replacement nut to fit at the same time.

So either of those nuts would do the job?, anything else needed?

The correct wrench to do the new one up, the old one comes off with a big set of grips in the absence of the correct tool however it will mar the outer thread.
